Lightweight Spring Scarves

Written by Amanda Tjan on Tuesday, April 8th, 20083 Comments

With the start of April, the cold and dreary winter is finally starting to give way to the breezy and bright spring. We can finally start putting away all of our heavy coats and cashmere scarves to make room for our new, lightweight spring clothes. But just because the weather is finally starting to warm up doesn’t mean that we have to put away all clothes reminiscent of the winter months.

Lightweight scarves are still in and provide the perfect segway from spring to winter. The newest ones are colorful, uniquely patterned, and comfortable aka low maintenance and a perfect addition to any outfit. By adding a scarf to whatever you’re wearing, an originally boring outfit suddenly becomes trendy. On those really lazy days, my new default outfit has become a pair of leggings, an American Apparel v-neck, and one of my new scarves. Simple, yet you can still draw attention depending on your new accessory.

Square-shaped scarves have just been becoming more and more popular, since they add a slight variation to the typical trend. This style was originally inspired by the shemagh scarves used in the Middle East. The ethnic patterns of a shemagh scarf have been slightly modified with new colors and patterns to suit a new culture, but they still channel the Eastern heritage they originated from. In a way, a simple scarf is bringing together two cultures that have constantly been butting heads during recent years. Whether or not it has any political significance, these scarves offer a practical and stylish use for the sometimes chilly spring days.
