In the early 1990’s clothing was horrendous, it was unlike anything the world had seen before. Day-glow colors and horrible triangular shapes with sharp edges defined the style. Watch an episode of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and you will know what I mean. But where did this kind of fashion sense, or lack thereof, come from?
We can look at popular fashion from the past couple of years and see that the current trends pay homage to the time of our youth and our parents generation. In the 1970’s, flared bottoms, mini-skirts, baseball tees, and ripped jeans were all the rage for men and women. In the 1980’s, leggings, leg warmers, big sunglasses, and high top Air Jordans kicks became extremely popular. Celebrities of today illustrate for us the fashions of yesteryear. The two headed Olsen monster looks like it just stepped off the set of “Three’s Company”. Kanye West is nothing more than a long lost Sex Pistols fan.
Suspenders, Ray Ban glasses, ripped scarves, tight jeans, leather jackets and patches, these things are not new. Mohawks and feux-hawks with bold colors are fresh out of the time machine from a Ramones show.
I think that necklace is available at UrbanOutfitters. But anyway, this is my point, or really my worry - If we pick and choose the fashions from by gone eras in chronological order, the early 90’s are on deck and that just flat out worries me.
