Forget everything you thought you knew about the art of graffiti and its culture. Done? Good. Now throw away your paintLaser Graffiti on a Building in Rotterdamcans, gloves, masks, & stencils, and get ready to check out the revolutionary style of art known as laser graffiti. The guys over at Graffiti Research Lab have essentially perfected this craft. In order to create this art, they simply use:

  • a PC Laptop - ASUS A8JS - Core 2 Duo 1.83 Ghz 1GB Ram Nvideo Geforce Go 7300 256MB - VGA and DVI out
  • a Pansonic PTD5600U 5000 ANSI Lumens 1024×768 DLP Projector
  • a Watec 221S Security/Astrononmy Camera with manual iris zoom lens
  • a Bogen magic arm and super clamp
  • a Pinnacle PCTV USB capture card
  • a 60mW green laser (super illegal in a lot of places and very dangerous)
  • and loads and loads of AAA batteries

I shot Reagan Laser GraffitiThen, they take the projector and aim it at a huge object like a building or bridge. At the same time, they align up the camera to record the same building/bridge/graffiti surface. This is now the part where the computer comes in handy. What basically happens is the camera captures the laser on the building, which in turn feeds that image to the computer, which feeds that to the projector. A much more detailed, and in-depth article on how laser graffiti works can be found here.

Once everything is set up and calibrated, the real fun begins. Watch the video below.
