These days, it seems like everyone loves (or loves to hate) clothing that sends a controversial message. The Bonafide Icon NYC Exploitedcontroversy generates buzz for the clothing company, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. French Connection UK anyone? A quick google search for “french connection uk controversy” yields almost 2 million results. When we here at Jetcomx stumbled across Bonafide Icon, we quickly noticed that one of their shirts was banned from KarmaLoop. I had to find out why. It turns out that KarmaLoop felt like the shirt, aptly named “Exploited”, was degrading to women and too provocative. But, this was not actually the case. On their website, Bonafide Icon stated that,

Mixtape Mondays: The Hood Internet vs Chicago

by Andrew Boni on August 25, 2008

One way to describe The Hood Internet could be “Girl Talk on Ritalin”. If you are like me, you tend to get sick ofThe Hood Internet vs Chicago Album Cover listening to mash-ups that suffer from ADD. After listening to one of these mash-up albums long enough (Feed the Animals anyone?), your head feels likes its going to explode à la Scanners. The Hood Internet is a breath of fresh air in the mash-up genre. In case you were wondering, The Hood Internet is comprised of Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (aka STV SLV). The Chicago based duo specialize in mashing up hip-hop with indie rock. On The Hood Internet vs Chicago, the two allow each sampled song to play for 30 seconds or longer which results in a much more listenable mixtape.

Congratulations SUPER CR3W!!!! On ThursdaySuper Cr3w Wins America's Best Dance Crew August 21, Super Cr3w took the gold at the season finale of the second season of America’s Best Dance Crew. Yet again, the west coast won the whole thing. I guess California (many of Super Cr3w’s members are from southern CA) is a breeding ground for amazing crews. What really made Super Cr3w stand apart from everyone else was their unique bboy style and mind blowing stunts. They gave America a huge peek into the break dancing world and developed their choreography skills into a force to be reckoned with. Out of all the crews, Super Cr3w showed the most diversity and definitely deserved the champion title.

Sixty-nine year old Paul Mawhinney is the owner of the largest record collection in the world. His collectionPaul Mawhinney World's Largest Record Collection spans every single genre of American music, from rock to jazz, country to R&B, blues to broadway – the list goes on. He even has a record that is over 127 years old. What’s more amazing is the fact that more than half of his collection is brand new. You see, Paul Mawhinney used to own a record shop until it closed down earlier this year. He made it a habit to keep the last copy of every record that was ever sold there.

Originally released in late 2004, Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol. I can be considered old, in a way. But, with theM.I.A. and Diplo Piracy Funds Terrorism Mixtaperesurgance of M.I.A.’s popularity after both the release of her album Kala, in 2007, and the featuring of her hit single in the movie Pineapple Express, it seems only natural to post this classic of a mixtape. Featured on it are 21 tracks of M.I.A. (duh) collaborating with Philadelphia’s own DJ Diplo, or simply Diplo. My personal favorite track on this mixtape is number 7, entitled Amazon (Diplo Mix). It features M.I.A.’s Amazon mixed with Ciara’s Goodies. It’s pretty awesome. Listen to the first 8 tracks on Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol. I below, and then download the entire mixtape.

Whenever someone wants a fly pair of sneakers, the default shoes everyone tends to look for are Nike Nike Terminator High Supreme - Snake Skin / Silver / NavyDunks. Dunks will always be stylish, but why not switch things up a bit and go for a fly pair of Nike Terminators? Compared to Dunks, the shape of the Terminator High Supremes is narrower and more fitted. The Terminators still have the typical oversized look of Nikes, but have a less bulky appearance than Dunks. The style makes me think of a riced out pair of Vans high tops.

Since I came home for the summer, I have been spending a lot of my shopping time in TheAndre the Giant has a posse Closet: California Couture. Everything they have in there is the epitome of street California fashion, which is definitely a style I have missed a lot since I moved out to Boston. All my time intensely searching through the racks at The Closet has made me fall in love with the company OBEY. Their screenprints grab your attention and have a message that means more than “it looks cool.”

As I was making my usual rounds around the internet, I stumbled across this rare live footage of Fugazi fugazi-liveperforming their hit song Waiting Room. The video is cira 1988 from a gig in Washington, D.C. Fugazi, along with their frontman Ian MacKaye, helped to pioneer much of the styles of music that we take for granted today. Before becoming part of Fugazi, MacKaye was best know for his role as the frontman for the straight-edge band Minor Threat. Pay respect where respect is due.
