OE, I sit corrected. Technically, yes "Have some more chicken/Have some more pie/It doesn't matter/If it's boiled or fried" is an original composition. And I'm not trashing Weird Al--UHF is an underrated classic and many of his parodies are superior to the originals, but calling a "style parody" an original composition is playing the homage card a bit too strongly. That's like saying Ding Dongs are a style parody of Ring Dings.

I'll give you this round, OE. Only because you defended Weird Al and not Winger.

There's been a lot of mix-tapes in my life, given and received. But the most tragic one was from a girl named Tracy in 8th grade. She wanted to show me how awesome rap and R&B was, so she made me a mix tape.

I listened to it, hated it, but thought her making it meant she wanted to go out with me and do some of the very adult things mentioned in the songs on the tape. The only songs I remember from the tape were "California Love" by Tupac and Dr. Dre and "Gimme Dat Nut" by Eazy E.

So I broke up with my girlfriend, who I had been seeing for 9 months (an eternity in 8th grade). It turns out, Tracy didn't want any part of me, romantically. I spent the next three or so years trying to get my ex-girlfriend back, to no avail. It was terrible.

Maybe Tracy didn't like my pube mustache and greasy Cobain-lite hair. I friggin' hate rap and R&B.

Um... Weird Al DOES write his own compositions. Half the songs on every album are originals, and only one of them, the truly great "Everything You Know Is Wrong" sounds like They Might Be Giants. A lot of the original songs are what Al calls "style parodies" but that doesn't take away from the fact that the words and music are Al's, even if he's replicated the style.
