Our favorite mashup duo is back with their latest mixtape, cleverly titled The Mixtape Volume Five. On it we’ve got Toro y Moi vs. Cali Swag District, Usher vs. Sleigh Bells & The xx vs. DMX. They’re currently on a North American tour, so check them out while you can. [read more…]
Listen to this new track from mashup artist Wait What. It’s got Willow Smith’s breakout hit “Whip My Hair” pitted against dubstep musician Skrillex’s “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites.” Pretty sick mix if you ask me.

Kristine Flaherty, better known by her stage name K.Flay, is one of the most talented burgeoning female rappers around. 2010 was a breakout year for the Stanford grad; she collaborated with French cello/violin duo SomethingALaMode on their hit song “5am” and released her mixtape Mashed Potatoes. She’s drawn comparisons to Liz Phair, Fiona Apple and Missy Elliot, and has already performed alongside big name acts like Snoop Dogg, Ludacris and 3OH!3. [read more…]
Here’s one of my favorite new Hood Internet tracks— it’s got Berkeley-based rapper Lil’ B’s “Real Life” pitted against UK producer Gold Panda‘s “You.” As usual, The Hood Internet creates a killer mash-up, perfect for any dance party. [read more…]
Mash-up artist Gregg Gillis, affectionately known by millions as Girl Talk, released his latest album All Day earlier today. I couldn’t be more excited. On All Day, Gillis mashes up tracks like Cali Swag District’s “Teach Me How to Dougie” to the 1987 hit “Jane Says,” Portishead with Big Boi, and Lady Gaga with Aphex Twin. His ability to make an un-danceable song danceable is pretty amazing. I’m sure a couple of these songs will find themselves on your weekend playlist.

Attention all you budding mash-up artists and DJs: Phoenix has just released the multitrack recordings of every one of their songs on Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. This means that it’s now easier than ever to remix and mash-up Phoenix’s latest album. It’s a pretty awesome move on their part, if you ask me.
Over the next week or two, I’m sure some amazing stuff will surface from all corners of the web (although we’ll have to brace ourselves for the initial influx of crappy remixes). Feeling creative? Grab your copy of Albeton Live and get remixing! [read more…]
Artist Evan Roth has made one of the most bizarre yet awesome videos I’ve seen in a while. The video’s called “Cache Rules Everything Around Me,” a play on the phrase made famous by The Wu-Tang Clan, and was made entirely from animated gifs. The video is a bombardment of the most random (and quite possibly offensive) gifs you may or may not have seen in your time on the internet.
Several tracks from Girl Talk’s first album Night Ripper make up the soundtrack, including “That’s My DJ,” “Hold Up,” “Too Deep” and “Smash Your Head.”
Roth is also one of the guys behind the EyeWriter Project, an ongoing collaborative research effort to help those suffering from ALS with creative technologies. [read more…]
