Sincerely, Severely, Morningbell

Going into this article, I had this idea of finding local musicians around the US and writing about them one at a time. As a student at the University of Florida, I’m fully immersed in the local scene, so I’ve found some really great local musicians. And, as a budding journalist, I had hoped to [...]

A Little Insight into Die Antwoord

What to say about Die Antwoord… This group of rappers, DJs, and singers is creating the most ridiculously strange dance/rap music of all time. First of all, it isn’t all in English, they choose Afrikaans instead. When they do decide to speak English, it’s almost completely unintelligible. With names like Ninja, Yo-Landi, and DJ Hi-Tek [...]

M.I.A.’s Controversial Music Video Born Free

British producer, singer, rapper, and political activist M.I.A. has just released the music video to her latest single, “Born Free”. The new song is a departure from M.I.A.’s dance classics that we’ve come to know and love (Bamboo Banga, Boyz, Paper Planes, and Amazon come to mind). As soon as I heard “Born Free,” I [...]

Bonnaroo Buzz: Ben & Jerry’s new ice cream flavor

Ben & Jerry’s has yet again succeeded in combining two of my most favorite things: ice-cream and music.
Bonnaroo Buzz is, and I quote, “Light coffee and malt ice creams with whiskey caramel swirls and english toffee pieces.”
Seriously? This is beyond delicious.
This collaboration allows more cash flow to the Bonnaroo Works Fund, in which they promote, [...]

SXSW Best Music Video 2010: Cinnamon Chasers – “Luv Deluxe”

The winner of SXSW’s Best Music Video 2010 was Cinnamon Chasers’ “Luv Deluxe.” The video chronicles the misadventures of a young couple as they journey out west to the San Francisco area. It totally reminds me of that movie the Butterfly Effect. Watch, and you’ll see what I mean.
Awesome video, great song. This definitely turned [...]

MGMT’s Sophomore Album Congratulations Available for Stream

It seems to be happening more and more nowadays: albums get leaked online weeks before they’re slated for official release. It’s happened to some of the most anticipated albums of the past year: The Blueprint 3, Blakroc, Contra, Man on the Moon, the list goes on. MGMT’s latest album Congratulations is no exception; the followup [...]

Two tracks from MGMT’s Second Album Congratulations Surface

Look what the cat dragged in.
I was delighted to see an unfamiliar track by MGMT on the front page of The Hype Machine today only to find out it was one of TWO leaked tracks from MGMT’s newest creation Congratulations.
Congratulations drops April 8th, but these tracks make for a satisfactory preview. Now that everyone in [...]

Kid Cudi Feat. MGMT & Ratatat – Pursuit of Happiness

Just came across the video for “Pursuit of Happiness” by Kid Cudi feat. MGMT & Ratatat. This is off of Cudi’s Man on the Moon, which dropped last year. If you notice, that’s Drake standing next to Cudi. Why he’s in the video and MGMT/Ratatat aren’t I have no idea. I guess since Drake owned [...]

Mystery Solved – Finding André Obin and Feeding My Techno Binge

A few months ago, I did a concert review of Stars and Track of Field when they played at Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge, MA. I really dug the opening act, who I referred to as “mystery noise man.” Well, good news, we tracked him down to see what he’s all about.
His real name is [...]

M.I.A. Gets Back in the Game, Releases “There’s Space for Ol Dat I See”

After what seems to have been a year’s long hiatus, English producer/singer/rapper/artist M.I.A. came out of the woodwork on Tuesday and posted a new song from her hotly anticipated third album on her Twitter account. Entitled “Theres (sic) Space for Ol Dat I See,” the song is definitely a throwback to the era of “Galang” [...]
