kanye west

jay-zCheck out Jay-Z’s new music video for one of the sleeper hits off of The Blueprint 3, “On to the Next One.” The song’s main hook samples one of the more obscure lines from French duo Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.”, much in the same way that T.I.’s “Swagga Like Us” sampled M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes.”

Is it just me, or is Jay-Z going for the Kanye West look with those shades, leather gloves, and futuristic diamond-padded jacket (complete with popped collar)? [read more…]

by Courtney Allessio on December 30, 2009

I’m no expert here. I’m simply and honestly telling you the songs that I loved this past year – polls, charts, blogs, magazines aside. I avoided adding/removing songs just to reach some practical number, so there are only 24.

Here we go with the very subjective and biased Top 24 Songs of 2009!

remix-fridays-3

Yessss, it’s finally Friday. This week, we’ve got Chromeo, Kanye West, Fatboy Slim, Grizzly Bear, Dead Prez, MSTRKRFT, Phoenix and more. I’m definitely a huge fan of LMFAO’s remix of Kanye’s “Paranoid.” It’s about 700 times better than the original. Also, this week, I’ve included a mash-up that’s too good to have left out. It’s The Hood Internet’s “Two Weeks of Hip-hop,” which is a mash-up of Grizzly Bear and Dead Prez. Have an awesome Columbus Day weekend, and enjoy.

Blurtt Co-Founder Nik Sethi

Blurtt Co-Founder/CEO Nikhil Sethi

There once was a time when people sent postcards to friends, family members, and significant others in order to share their thoughts, experiences, ideas, and emotions. Now fast forward to today — when was the last time you sent out a postcard in the mail? It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Well, one man is on a mission to try and change all of that. Recently, Jetcomx was lucky enough to chat with Nikhil Sethi, co-founder/CEO of blurtt.

Andrew Boni: Thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. Why don’t you go ahead and tell us a little bit about yourself. Where do you call home? What school do you do to? What are you studying?
Nikhil Sethi: My names Nikhil Sethi, I grew up around the Bay Area, a little bit from San Francisco, in a small town called Saratoga. Currently I’m going to school at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL studying Electrical Engineering and Law.

AB: Alright, so give us the low-down on blurtt. Maybe some people have heard of it, while others haven’t. What exactly is blurtt? What does blurtt do? What makes it special?

NS: So blurtt.com is tackling the problem of creating emotion in day to day communication. You may go online and send a few emails to your friends, or send a couple of text messages, but its not easy to quickly get across real emotion. We’ve created a simple, easy to use online interface that lets you send real, printed postcards with YOUR handwriting to your friends anywhere in the world. The best part is you don’t even need to know your friend’s addresses to send a postcard to them. As long as they are on Facebook or Twitter, or even have an email address, it’s easy to send them a message on a real postcard that has real emotional impact, as its something that arrives to them in a physical form. The Hood Internet vs Dialogue Inc

This Monday we’ve got a mixtape from The Hood Internet, one of the best in the mash-up genre. We’ve featured them on here a bunch of times in the past. Earlier this year, they did an hour long mix for one of Dialogue Inc.’s podcasts in which they introduced their new material. Take a listen to this clip and then download the entire album. Enjoy!

Remix Fridays
Remix Fridays is a little segment that we’re going to be posting each and every Friday here on Jetcomx. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now, since I always come across so many good remixes that need to be listened to. These are posted on Fridays because, well, that’s the start of the weekend which usually has parties, and that’s prime time for blasting killer remixes.

In the inaugural Remix Friday, we have some some classics that have been remixed. These include some Biggie, Tupac, Rick Ross, Michael Jackson, Passion Pit, Jack Peñate, Kanye West, Empire of the Sun, Justice, and Kid Cudi. Take a listen and enjoy. [read more…]

makehersay-videoshoot-1-kid-cudiEarlier today KiD CuDi’s “Make Her Say” music video was released by Universal Music Group. It’s the rising hip-hop star’s third music video out there, with the first two being “Day ‘n’ Nite,” and its Crookers remix counterpart. When I first heard “Make Her Say” back in May, I thought it was a hilarious, novelty song. Since then, it’s definitely grown on me, and I feel like the song is blowing up.  I mean, hey, with the unbelievably talented team of Kid CuDi, Kanye West, Common, and A-Trak, it’s pretty much expected that an amazingly hot song will be birthed. Check it out. [read more…]

Drake Rapper Best I Ever Had
Today marked the release of Drake’s much anticipated “Best I Ever Had” music video. It’s been a big week for the Degrassi star-turned rapper. A couple of days ago he was signed to Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money record label. Being that “Best I Ever Had” is Drake’s most popular song, I expected the video that accompanied it to be top notch. That’s why I was a little let down when I saw it earlier today.

First of all, the video has nothing to do with the song. The concept of the video seems to have come out of left field. I thought that Drake was above the whole big-breasted-women-in-skimpy-outfits-talking-in-sexual-innuendo in rap videos thing. Guess not. Secondly, the video is directed by Kanye West, who has basically no directing experience whatsoever. I realized that it was Kanye West the moment I laid eyes on the high school lion mascot; it basically screamed of Kanye’s The College Dropout and its bear mascot. [read more…]
