Last night, LA-based Best Coast performed their hit song “Boyfriend” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Best Coast made waves in 2010 with the release of their debut album Crazy for You. I love the chill, surfer-rock vibe that these guys give off. They’re definitely a band to watch in 2011.

Sunny Day Real Estate Makes a Comeback With "Seven" on Jimmy Fallon

Sunny Day Real Estate Of all the music that we showcase here on Jetcomx, I would have to say that emo is probably one of the least represented genres. Why is that? Maybe because emo was so 2002? Well, not really — in fact, it’s alive and well.

Earlier this year, Sunny Day Real Estate, one of most influential bands of the emo genre, got back together after being on hiatus since 2001. Emo fans everywhere have since rejoiced and dug up and dusted off their old copies of How It Feels to Be Something On and The Rising Tide (myself included). Now all we need is Braid) and Jawbreaker) to get back together and life would be golden. (Hey, it could happen!)

On Tuesday night, Sunny Day Real Estate made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to perform one of their classics, “Seven.” It was the first time that they had performed one of their songs on TV in years. “Seven” is off of their 1994 debut album Diary, which has since become an emo staple. After watching the video, I think it’s safe to say that they’ve still got it goin’ on.

Beastie Boys Perform 'So What'cha Want' with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

The Beastie Boys

Last night, the Beastie Boys made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. At Jimmy’s request, they performed the classic jam “So What’cha Want” off of their 1992 album Check Your Head. What made this rendition unique was the fact that the song’s instrumentals were played live, rather than previously recorded like in most of their performances. Despite the fact that Mike D, MCA, and Ad-Rock are starting to show some wrinkles and grey, they can still definitely put on a kick-ass performance. It also helps to have an amazing band like The Roots back you up. Compare last night’s performance with one from over 17 years ago on the Arsenio Hall show.

The Philly bred, world renowned hip hop act known affectionately as The Legendary Roots Crew (The Roots ), have been selected and are currently preparing to make a new home on one particular stage that is quite different from all the others that they have graced over the years; The stage of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, on NBC, as the resident house band. The Roots will debut, at the Highline Ballroom, where the show is shot, on March 5, 2009. Fallon, who many had originally become familiar with during his time on Saturday Night Life, has stepped in to replace Conan O’Brien, whom has moved on to do The Tonight Show, which was formerly hosted by Jay Leno (I know, this sounds like a late night soap opera storyline, but just try to follow along). Many say that Jimmy Fallon has some figuratively large shoes to fill with his new found late night slot, but as the globe-trotting Roots ready for the most stationary gig they’ve ever held, some may wonder exactly how this new and ultimately untouched (by a hip hop act) platform will work out.
