Last night Jay-Z performed “Empire State of Mind,” a track off of The Blueprint 3, on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. He put on a killer performance with Bridget Kelly, who took over Alicia Keys’ role in the song. To be honest, Bridget Kelly’s voice sounds nearly identical with Alicia’s, so it’s really tough to discern the two. When I saw this for the first time, I was fooled into thinking that it was Alicia Keys herself. Anyway, watch the video. Click here to download “Empire State of Mind.”

Bridget Kelly – watch out 2010 there’s a NYC female voice that’s gonna mug you big time!!!
I disagree that bridget kelly and alicia keys sound similar!
I saw Jay-z and bridget perform this track live at Wembley, supporting Coldplay in september, her voice is so much more powerful that alicia keys, infact, when i heard the album track on the radio the following day i was really disappointed by alicia keys’ relative lack of presence on the track.
Really? That’s interesting. I’ve always felt like Alicia Keys had one of the most powerful female voices in R&B. Maybe not anymore though…
I agree with you…
I know of Alicia Keys, but have to agree with Phil that Bridget Kelly really belted the song out and gave it an energy that the album track lacks.
And check her out on Jonathan Ross’s show (recorded three or four days before the Wembley gig) when she also absolutely nailed it.
She is only in her early 20s – get to hear her before the voice coaches and everyone gets to her and she sings at 85% to protect her voice!
Not that I want her to damage her voice, but the sheer power is extraordinary…….Jay-Z was the biggest positive surprise of that Wembley gig…..and she certainly helped.
Bridget Kelly owns Empire State Of Mind. I think it’s safe to say that, should the need arise, Alicia Keys might stand-in for Bridget from now on. I love Alicia’s singing but her voice sounds tinny and forced comparatively in versions of this song.
I’m bummed I just discovered her a few days ago poking around YouTube. I would have gone the the recent Jay-Z gig to see her as I never followed Jay’s music at all until now.
Can’t wait for her disk next year and hopefully another trip through my town to support it.
Seldom to voices like hers, with that soul and spirit driving it, come around.
Signed, Instant Fan
Agreed. I sent her a message and she gave me a shout back. It’s just cool to know. Check her song ” stuck” out. It’s pretty good. I can’t wait to hear more from her.
I’m very interested how you sent her a message? I’d like to send a quick, complimentary hello too if possible. Thanks!
