Sunny Day Real Estate Makes a Comeback With "Seven" on Jimmy Fallon

Sunny Day Real Estate Of all the music that we showcase here on Jetcomx, I would have to say that emo is probably one of the least represented genres. Why is that? Maybe because emo was so 2002? Well, not really — in fact, it’s alive and well.

Earlier this year, Sunny Day Real Estate, one of most influential bands of the emo genre, got back together after being on hiatus since 2001. Emo fans everywhere have since rejoiced and dug up and dusted off their old copies of How It Feels to Be Something On and The Rising Tide (myself included). Now all we need is Braid) and Jawbreaker) to get back together and life would be golden. (Hey, it could happen!)

On Tuesday night, Sunny Day Real Estate made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to perform one of their classics, “Seven.” It was the first time that they had performed one of their songs on TV in years. “Seven” is off of their 1994 debut album Diary, which has since become an emo staple. After watching the video, I think it’s safe to say that they’ve still got it goin’ on.

Where the Wild Things Are Soundtrack

Where the Wild Things Are Karen O
So I just came across the soundtrack for the upcoming Spike Jonze flick Where the Wild Things Are. Jonze selected Yeah Yeah Yeah’s frontwoman Karen O. to help make the soundtrack as reminiscent of childhood as possible. I find this notion a little strange, since the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s are more known for being in your face, off the wall, and quirky. They aren’t known for their huge child fanbase.

Mixtape Mondays: Pac Div - Church League Champions

Pac Div Church League Champions

This week in Mixtape Mondays, we have Church League Champions from Pac Div (aka Pacific Division). If you’re not familiar, Pac Div is a three-man rap group out of Southern California. They’re somewhat new to the rap scene, having released their first mixtape Sealed for Freshness back in 2006. The success of Sealed for Freshness caused major players in the hip-hop world to take notice, including Pharrell, The Roots, and Snoop Dogg. Consequently, they amassed a large internet following.

Church League Champions is brings a uniquely 90’s rap sound to the table. The beats are pretty simple and the lyrics are out of control. Listen to tracks like “Pac Div” or “Mayor” to see what I mean.

Atlas Sound and Animal Collective's Noah Lennox team up for 'Walkabout'

[caption id=”attachment_2539” align=”alignright” width=”300” caption=”Atlas Sound aka Deerhunter's Bradford Cox”]Atlas Sound aka Deerhunter[/caption]

Keeping it short and sweet here.

I just really like this track off of Atlas Sound’s Logos released earlier this month. Atlas Sound is the name of Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox’s solo project.

Spin magazine described ‘Walkabout’ as the following:

Bradford Cox’s blissed-out fantasy of an Animal Collective song playing on a merry-go-round at Panama City Bead in 1966
Pretty accurate, I’d say. It goes really well with rainy Sundays and the-end-of-fall time. Have a go:

In unrelated news, Rolling Stone gave 4 stars to ‘Party in the U.S.A.’ by Miley Cyrus while Grizzly Bear’s ‘While You Wait for the Others’ received 3. I’m a little beyond bothered.

The Swayze

I come to praise Patrick Swayze, not bury him. He was our B-level action star with romantic credibility, and we forgave him for Dirty Dancing _and _Ghost _because he the-beast-patrick-swayze-gungave us _Roadhouse _and _Red Dawn. The martial arts crossover was inevitable—execs don’t see any difference between ballet and kung fu — and the expressionless acting worked for each Swayzean archetype: the greaser bad boy, the misunderstood rebel with a heart of gold, the mourning husband, the stoic bouncer, and the post-apocalyptic warrior.

Did I say post-apocalyptic? Indeed. Swayze tried it all. He was the Michael Caine of genre cinema. 30-somethings fetishize Red Dawn _but they should be dropping references to 1987’s _Steel Dawn:
