New Sketches by RVCA/Facebook Artist David Choe

It’s been quite a while since there’s been some art featured on here, so I figured it’s time for a change. I just stumbled across a couple of sketches by David Choe, a pretty accomplished artist/muralist who has done pieces for retailers like UPPERPLAYGROUND and brands like RVCA. Oh, and he was also the guy that was hired by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to paint the walls of their Palo Alto headquarters. Pretty awesome.

These particular mesmerizing sketches were inspired by three different women on the New York subway.

Choe has a very distinct style of drawing that tends to differentiate his works from others. Take a look at some of his other pieces and you’ll see what I mean:

Mixtape Mondays: Donnis - Diary of an ATL Brave

donnis3

Mixtape Mondays are back! My name is Greg from GregsHipHop.com and I’ll be runnin’ this wonderful corner of Jetcomx from now on. If you ever wanna get at me I’m Greg@jetcomx.com. I’ll be back here every Monday so enjoy.

Diary of an ATL Brave is the first mixtape project by Atlanta native Donnis and dropped back on August 20. I didn’t get the chance to give a listen until almost a week later on a plane back to the east coast and I gotta say I listened to it three times through on that flight.

So lets get right into it. Donnis has a southern swagga and drawl but his flow has substance and is as hard as any NY lyricist. He’s got some good one liners but his strength is really how his thoughts develop through a verse and even between verses. There’s a real hunger in his songs and the result is a really high quality project. If you just listen to beats you can get by on this but you’ll be missing the stories in the songs that Donnis tells so well.

Miike Snow's 'Black and Blue' Music Video

miike-snow

Swedish indie-pop group Miike Snow (no, that’s not a typo) just released the music video for their hit single “Black and Blue.” Miike Snow’s sound has been described by professional music critics as “A-ha meets Animal Collective.” I personally like to think that their sound is more of an offshoot of Passion Pit’s. The band’s lead singer/songwriter Andrew Wyatt even sounds a bit like Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos.

The guys released their self-titled debut album back in May of 2009, and on it was “Black and Blue” and “Animal,” a song that went on to catapult them to fame. It’s funny, because as I sit here writing this, Miike Snow is currently playing at T.T. the Bear’s Place in Cambridge, MA, which is just a stone’s throw away from me. I wish I had bought tickets.

Anyway, the video for “Black and Blue” is one of the more captivating ones that I’ve seen lately, and it’s not incredibly weird. It actually depicts an interesting story; after the 3 minutes and 42 seconds are up, you feel for the main character.

Kid Cudi Performs Live at RSVP Gallery in Chicago with Common & Consequence

kid-cudi-excuse-my-mood1
Last night at the grand opening of RVSP Gallery in Chicago, a star-studded line-up of artists performed including Really Doe, GLC, Mr. Hudson, Consequence, Big Sean, Common and Kid Cudi. Cudi’s set was pretty epic, and it included familiar songs such as Jay-Z’s single “Already Home,” “Down & Out,” “Pursuit of Happiness,” A Tribe Called Quest’s “Buggin’ Out,” “Day ‘N Night,” and “Make Her Say.” If the free show with Cudi wasn’t enough, surprise appearances by both Consequence and Common nearly blew the roof off of the place. Check it out.

Jay-Z Performs 'Empire State of Mind' with Bridget Kelly

jay-z-bridget-kelly

Last night Jay-Z performed “Empire State of Mind,” a track off of The Blueprint 3, on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. He put on a killer performance with Bridget Kelly, who took over Alicia Keys’ role in the song. To be honest, Bridget Kelly’s voice sounds nearly identical with Alicia’s, so it’s really tough to discern the two. When I saw this for the first time, I was fooled into thinking that it was Alicia Keys herself. Anyway, watch the video. Click here to download “Empire State of Mind.”
