So even though the Piet Mondrian edition of the Nike Dunk Low SB’s have been out for a while, I’m still in love with them. The simplicity of these Dunks is a characteristic that sets them apart from the herd. Following in the artistic style of Piet Mondrian, these Dunks make use of black, white, yellow, blue, and red in a very minimalistic style. In case you were wondering, Mondrian was a Dutch painter from the early 20th century who helped pioneer a movement known as neoplasticism. Specifically, his painting Composition with Yellow, Blue, and Red is what the shoes are modeled after.
Headwrap Nation
It’s undeniable…the seventies are back. Pants are starting to look like bell bottoms again and all the floral hippie prints are back in style. I have never been a huge fan of the peace and love fashion era, but I have to admit: I am loving its return. Well, I am not a huge floral fan, but the return of boho has brought back HEADWRAPS.
I can’t get over just how simple these are yet the make such an impact. Just by tying a head wrap around your head, you can take an ordinary outfit to a whole new level.
The Revival of Denim Leggings
When the leggings trend came back from the dead a couple years ago, it was the happiest day of my life. Unlike
the tight and starchy jeans I had to jump into every morning, leggings were uber comfortable. I could throw them on under dresses when it was cold and they looked perfect with all my too big tops. The only problem is that sometimes, leggings just could not replace the classic look of jeans. If only tight jeans were more comfortable…
Shorts on the Rise for Summer
So high-rise bottoms started to make a comeback last year, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be obsessed with the new high rise shorts this season. For many of us, low-rise jeans can result in unsightly love handles that make many of us think twice about wearing them on one of our fat days. High-rise corset pants, however, help hold all of our junk in since they often end above our belly buttons (our natural waist) where we are narrower. Plus, they are just flat out trendier and offer a great change of pace from regular denim.
Suspenders Storm the Streets
Slowly but surely, suspenders have started to invade the fashion scene. Last year, Mischa Barton made them her go-to accessory, and more recently Victoria Beckham rocked Dior suspenders on the cover of the January 2008 issue of Elle. Suspenders add a nostalgic air to a modern day outfit, except that now we don’t need to use them to hold up our pants.
