Whenever someone wants a fly pair of sneakers, the default shoes everyone tends to look for are Nike Dunks. Dunks will always be stylish, but why not switch things up a bit and go for a fly pair of Nike Terminators? Compared to Dunks, the shape of the Terminator High Supremes is narrower and more fitted. The Terminators still have the typical oversized look of Nikes, but have a less bulky appearance than Dunks. The style makes me think of a riced out pair of Vans high tops.
The Roots of Obey Clothing: Andre the Giant Has a Posse
Since I came home for the summer, I have been spending a lot of my shopping time in The Closet: California Couture. Everything they have in there is the epitome of street California fashion, which is definitely a style I have missed a lot since I moved out to Boston. All my time intensely searching through the racks at The Closet has made me fall in love with the company OBEY. Their screenprints grab your attention and have a message that means more than “it looks cool.”
Twenty Year Old Live Fugazi Waiting Room Video Surfaces
As I was making my usual rounds around the internet, I stumbled across this rare live footage of Fugazi performing their hit song Waiting Room. The video is cira 1988 from a gig in Washington, D.C. Fugazi, along with their frontman Ian MacKaye, helped to pioneer much of the styles of music that we take for granted today. Before becoming part of Fugazi, MacKaye was best know for his role as the frontman for the straight-edge band Minor Threat. Pay respect where respect is due.
Mixtape Mondays: Wale - The Mixtape About Nothing
Kicking off our new Mixtape Mondays theme is hip-hop’s rising star Wale and his mixtape entitled The Mixtape About Nothing. Wale (pronouced as WAH-lay) is a Washington, D.C. based hip-hop genious who has been compared to such hip-hop greats as Lil’ Wayne and Lupe Fiasco. On The Mixtape About Nothing, Wale samples clips from the sitcom Seinfeld extensively. Track number 6, The Kramer, samples the now infamous Michael Richards Laugh Factory outburst, in which he repeatedly addressed a group of hecklers as “niggers”. Track 8, The Vacation from Ourselves, features Julia Louis-Dreyfus (aka Elaine) saying,
Graffiti Crew Tags an Entire Subway Train
Tagging buildings is so last year. Pick up your game by tagging an entire subway train car. This adds a wholenew set of challenges - you have to complete the piece before the train rolls away, and you have to watch out for subway security and police, among other things. If this happened in the United States, I’m sure that they would have been arrested as terrorists. Watch the video. I apologize in advance for the horrible quality.
