Nowadays, it seems as if it is getting harder and harder to find magazines or publications with any substance. But for those interested in venturing into eclectic bookstores (i.e. Trident on Boston’s Newbury Street), look for the art and design publication Beautiful/Decay. Immediately, the cover draws in any passersby with it’s provoking and contemporary artwork. The cover of the recent issue X has a colorful portrayal of a soldier covered in graffiti standing in the middle of a surreal jungle scene. But the cover is only the beginning of what it holds printed inside. There are pages and pages of contemporary artwork from new artists, making Beautiful/Decay a great stepping-stone for emerging talent. In addition to the publication which is printed quarterly, Beautiful/Decay also has a website and e-mail newsletter that provides more information about the creative world and updates on B/D ventures, respectively.
DJ Clark Kent "Blacks Out" with the Release of New Sneaker and Mixtape
Leaders of the Boston-area sneaker elite, Concepts, teamed up with Nike Sportswear and DJ Clark Kent, to serve a more than generous offering for the sole that is guaranteed to give sneaker heads something to be thankful for well after the holidays have ended.
The Black Friday Nike Air Force 1, personally designed by sneaker enthusiast DJ Clark Kent (not to be confused with a “collector”), has redefined and reintroduced the term “classic” in relation to this popular Nike style. The shoe is, as Clark Kent described at today’s Concepts drop, “a fly luxury shoe without the luxury price tag”. The sneaker’s details include black pony hair, lenticular material, black patent leather, and a rainbow candy sparkle sole. We’re willing to bet that Clark’s impressive 1,800 pairs of Air Force 1’s, which are part of his massive 2,200+ sneaker arsenal didn’t hurt the chances of his design making it into production.
Boston Through the Eyes of Nick Keating

This amazing short film by Nick Keating reflects the personal experiences of a man living and exploring the beautiful city of Boston. From his video description:
I try to ride my bike around Boston everyday, listening to my ipod, and enjoying all the beautiful things the city has to offer. Riding my bike is a time to relax, reflect and just get away from any or all worries. Every shot in this video is a point along my ride that I stop and think about life. This short is meant to show how I see Boston, every time I go for a ride. Enjoy.

Diplo and the Mad Decent Crew Take Cambridge & Boston by Storm
[caption id=”attachment_875” align=”alignnone” width=”570” caption=”Diplo Peforms at the Middle East in Cambridge”][/caption]
Sweaty, drunken teen girls bumping and grinding with a giant slice of cheese pizza on a stage is usually something that only occurs in the most bizarre of fantasies. But, on Friday October 17th, Diplo and the Mad Decent crew (shoutout to Pizzaboy) made this a glorious reality.
America's Best Dance Crew Live Tour in Boston!
On Thursday September 25, I saw one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. America’s Best Dance Crew the Live Tour came to Boston, and I still cannot get over how much energy the performers brought into the theatre. The decor of the elegant Wang Theatre (typically used for opera and classical performances) provided a stark contrast against the urban dance crews on stage. A three-story metal structure was set up on stage that allowed the dancers and DJ to do their thing. As soon as the show started, the MC for the night immediately told the entire audience to get on their feet. Everyone was excited to be there (myself included) and were cheering and dancing the whole time. I can’t even explain how much better seeing the crews live is than seeing them on TV. All of the stunts and moves were much more dazzling in real life. Both Super Cr3w and Jabbawockeez were huge crowd pleasers and definitely deserved to win their respective seasons.
